Vintage Update

2018 vintage has arrived and we are in the full swing of it.

After a rather sporadic start due to some interesting weather which included November rains, a spike in temperature and the current humidity, our vines have been working hard. Fruit varieties have been maturing at different rates, meaning our viticulturists have been getting little sleep as they keep on top of everything. While some of the vineyards lost some foliage from the warmth, the grapes were working overtime to create the ideal Baume. While crop yields are slightly down from last year, quality is up which has created a lot of buzz around the winery for a great vintage ahead.

Speaking of vintage, have you met our new winemaker this year? He does so much of the hard work so we can sit down and enjoy a lovely glass, or two, of wine.

Grant Semmens

Grant has returned to Salena Estate after working with us back in 1998 for 5 years. He recently spent some time in the Limestone Coast and brings with him 26 years of experience.

New Wines

This year will bring so many new and exciting varieties as well as bringing back some old favourites.

Our Riverland Organic Chardonnay will be back after a brief retirement in 2017, and those that remember how good it was, well we know you’re already excited to get your hands on some.

We will have wines from some of the favourite and well know regions including Barossa Valley, Riverland, McLaren Vale, Langhorne Creek, Adelaide Hills and Currency Creek. Old faithful varieties such as Lagrein, Vermentino and Cabernet Sauvignon which will accompany some new friends such as Grenache and Mataro.

These varieties not only give us some great straight variety wines, but some fantastic cross varietal blended wines as well.
