Salena Estate Wines is the largest producer of organic red wine in Australia. We produce approximately 150,000 cases of organic wine annually from 100 hectares of vineyards since we converted just under half of our property in 2009.

How to become organic

Becoming certified organic is a 3 year process to convert a vineyard from normal production to organic production. What this means is that the grapes are grown, and the wine is made with no synthetic in-puts, artificial chemicals, pesticides, weedicide, fertilizers and GMO’s (genetically modified organisms). The only additive allowed is sulphur dioxide gas, but in very restricted amounts, to be organic it needs to be below 120 parts per million, compared to 250 parts per million in conventional wine.  However, don’t worry about the shelf life of your wine, it shouldn’t differ from traditionally made wines.

So what does this mean for consumers?

For people who are allergic to sulphites or get a headache after one glass of wine, Organic wine is the way to go. With minimal intervention, these wines come to you in as natural state as possible, which means less side effects and more enjoyment.

Since Salena Estate Wines exports wine all over the world, we are certified with not only Australia Certified Organic (ACO), but also IFOAM and NOP in the USA. You will find our ACO logo on the back of all our organically certified wines.
